Innovating insurance: LV runs financial sector's first blippable AR campaign

Proving the financial sector can be as innovative, imaginative and even fun in its approach to marketing as other industries are, British insurance firm LV= collaborated with Blippar on an interactive national press advertising campaign.

Three different blippable markers appeared as promotional LV= leaflet inserts in UK print publications including The Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph over a month-long period, and were sent out as part of a direct mail campaign. Seven million leaflet markers were distributed, in total.

Blipping the leaflets using a smartphone or tablet launched an immersive, animated mobile experience, enabling people to explore the world of LV= and hear quotes for insuring their health, homes, holidays, cars and pets.

The client’s brief was to create a cool and engaging educational AR campaign to draw attention to LV='s insurance offering, and we believe the informative, entertaining and shareable blipp sets a new benchmark in terms of creative content for the finance/insurance industry.

The blipp is one of a handful for which Blippar’s technical and design teams created augmented ‘3D’ worlds with a number of different interactive animated elements. The resulting blipp demonstrates how Blippar is pushing both the technical and creative boundaries of this industry, and enables LV= to stand out from their competitors.

Inside the LV= blipp

Paul Wishman, e-commerce director at LV=, said: ‘Social media is the fastest growing marketing channel, and Blippar is a fun and interactive way to engage with consumers. This is an important step in our strategy to expand our social media presence.’

LV= blogged about the interactive campaign on their website, and it received further attention from marketing, augmented reality and insurance news sources, including Marketing Magazine, Augmented Views and Insurance People.
