‘This is dope!’: Teaching tomorrow’s techsperts about the power of Blippar today

Team Blippar US was thrilled to be invited to Brooklyn’s MESA Charter High School to give five classes of 20 freshmen a demo of our app platform, as part of their College Bound course.

The course is aimed at getting students excited about the post-graduation world of college and careers… and it was a great opportunity for us to meet eager techsperts of the future!

The brilliant students thought Blippar was terrific (naturally) – and the phrase used most of all was ‘this is dope!’.

They played with the $5 Barack Obama blipp; the Wheaties Adrian Peterson photoshare, and the fire-breathing dragon tattoos and coasters we built for SXSW festival. Many of the latter got taken home to show families.

We also got the kids building their own blipps on Blippbuilder, and they created superb AR experiences involving fashion brands, sports, puppies, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream!

When asked what they’d most like blipps to do, one student said he’d ‘blipp fish to see what kind they are and where they live’, while another said they’d ‘blipp to turn a phone into another kind of phone, like an OS take over’ – something we actually have done for Blackberry in the past. Smart kid.

All the pupils had seriously awesome ideas for blipps and applications of our tool. So awesome, in fact, we’re now a little worried our jobs might be in jeopardy…

And when we asked who wanted to work at Blippar, every single hand shot straight up. Uhoh.
